Nine artists have been invited to contribute to an international project,developing networks and forums for collaboration for contemporary arts practitioners in the south of England, New York state and Switzerland through the international art hub of the Venice Biennale. Each is making and/or adapting new and/or existing work for transport in a normal sized suitcase, to be taken as luggage on a normal flight/train/bus journey and removed from the suitcase for presentation without any fixing to walls, floors and/or ceilings of the venues. This approach, inspired by Duchamp’s ’Boîte-en-Valise’, aims to encourages transportability of practice, the nurturing of collaboration and the cross fertilisation of artistic practice.
In addition to the events in Venice, the project concludes with two events at Aspex in Portsmouth:

Sunday 10 May, 2-4pm
An opportunity for visitors to the gallery to experience a ‘pop up’ exhibition featuring artworks by all nine artists participating in the project, including a diverse range of work from sculpture, performance, video, data, radio and sound to interventions and conversations.  Admission FREE

 
Monday 11 May, 4-8pm - Event for artists
An opportunity for artists to see the artworks presented and to hear about and join a discussion about the experiences of those who participated in the project, the importance of international presentation, networking and forms of collaboration. Curators Mark Segal, Jo Bushnell and Stephanie James will also be available for debate.
