Naomi Holdbrook expands drawing practice by building ‘drawing machines’ from various materials and experiments with mark-making by removing herself from decision making.
Displayed as installation and film, sale Drawing Machine No. 02 has been adapted from a previous work, medstore Drawing Machine No. 01, and informed by its location within the De La Warr Pavilion. The work reflects the way in which some experiences become out of control, tracing the process from a state of equilibrium to the eventual break down of the machine. As pendulums fight to bring the machine back to stability, drawings are produced until the construction ultimately destroys itself and collapses. Left behind will be the remnants of the broken drawing machine along with its drawings and a film documenting the event.
