The Art of Curiosity and the Deformation of the Kentish Coast, and 2012 Installation, dimensions variable
The Wunderkammer is an old, out of date format for geologists, entomologists, scientists and historians to present antique artefacts and curios. Jack Coulson has used this style of presentation to break down the restrictions of rigid modern scientific categorisation and processes. His work creates a retrospective view on seaside artefacts and uses labels that reflect archaic conventions. This installation portrays the past and present of the seaside and coast, re-categorising objects, artefacts and documents to prompt people to paint their own informed picture of our past.
