One of the major art spaces in the South, the Towner had been housed in a Georgian manor at the centre of Eastbourne since the 1920s. When it moved into new premises in 2009, it became one of the South of England’s major art spaces.

Alongside its own collection – which includes the most significant body of work by Eric Ravillious and contemporary work by artists such as Olafur Eliasson and Wofgang Tillmans – the Towner presents major exhibitions of British and international contemporary art.
